Baseball Game Preview: Arleta Mustangs vs. Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences Vipers

For the second straight game, Arleta will face off against Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences. The Mustangs will head out to face off against the Vipers at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Arleta took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They never let Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Mustangs as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak.

Abel Catalan was excellent, getting on base in three of his six plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Arleta's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 2-13 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jonathan Melendez, who got on base in three of his six plate appearances with two RBI.

Arleta's victory bumped their record up to 6-14. As for Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences, they are on a 14-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-14.
