Even though The Walker Valley Mustangs have not done well against the McMinn County Cherokees recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Walker Valley had just enough and edged McMinn County out 17-14. The win made it back-to-back wins for Walker Valley.
It was another big night for Evan Schwarzl, who threw for 244 yards and two touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes.
Despite the loss, McMinn County still got an impressive performance from Taylon White, who rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown. White has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last four times he's played.
Walker Valley has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. As for McMinn County, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Walker Valley will take on Campbell County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for McMinn County, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Clinton at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Tennessee (Clinton is ranked 67th, while McMinn County is ranked 77th).
