South Brunswick is 0-1 against Somerville since October of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The South Brunswick Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Somerville Pioneers at 7:00 p.m. Somerville took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on South Brunswick, who comes in off a win.
Last Friday, South Brunswick sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 30-27 win over Edison.
Braden Paulmenn looked great while leading his team to the win, rushing for 104 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries, while also throwing for 143 yards and a touchdown on only 11 passes. Paulmenn was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 62 yards.
Meanwhile, Somerville's game on Friday was all tied up 7-7 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell 14-7 to Hillsborough. While losing is never fun, Somerville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 89th, while Hillsborough is ranked 34th).
South Brunswick's win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 5-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 31.3 points per game. Somerville has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.
South Brunswick came up short against Somerville in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, falling 41-28. Can South Brunswick avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
