Baseball Recap: Summerfield Waldorf Has No Trouble Against Making Waves Academy

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Summerfield Waldorf had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-7 margin over the Making Waves Academy Marlins. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won four matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Seth Y and Lazlo G made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Y struck out six batters over three innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. Meanwhile, G pitched three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Y has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Y went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while G went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave G a new career-high.

In other batting news, Luca C was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run and four RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Summerfield Waldorf's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is 4-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Fynn M, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.

Summerfield Waldorf was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .529. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Summerfield Waldorf's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Making Waves Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 13-8-1.

Looking ahead, Summerfield Waldorf will square off against Sonoma Academy at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Coyotes will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Mustangs surely won't give up without a fight. Making Waves Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
