The Elkhorn South Storm will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lincoln North Star Navigators at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Elkhorn South scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They really took it to Buena Vista for the full four quarters, racking up a 75-27 win at home. With that win, Elkhorn South brought their scoring average up to 50.8 points per game.
Elkhorn South got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mollie Probasco out in front who scored 16 points along with two steals. Rowan Swartz was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
In what's become a running theme this season, Lincoln North Star gave their fans yet another huge victory on Saturday. They breezed by Gretna at home to the tune of 69-38. Given Lincoln North Star's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 45th, while Gretna is ranked 157th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lincoln North Star to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaytee Irons-Buettner, who scored 17 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Kendall Anderson, who scored 15 points along with three steals.
Elkhorn South's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-6. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.7 points per game. As for Lincoln North Star, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-2.
Saturday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Elkhorn South have been dynamite from deep this season, having only nailed 33.8% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Lincoln North Star struggles in that department as they've drained 42.3% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
