The University Prep Panthers waltzed into their matchup on Friday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They blew past Central Valley 62-42. Given University Prep's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 172nd, while Central Valley is ranked 984th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
When it comes to explaining why Central Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kylie Mason. Despite the final result, she scored 24 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mason has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Meridian Smutz, who scored no points along with 13 rebounds.
University Prep's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-4. As for Central Valley, they are on a 15-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-20.
University Prep will head out on the road to take on West Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. University Prep has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Central Valley, they will be playing at home against Lassen at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Central Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday.
