The Smethport Hubbers's four-game losing streak came to an end on Thursday. They came out on top against Cameron County by a score of 44-36. This was payback for Smethport, who suffered a 48-40 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Smethport's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Elizabeth Hungiville led the charge by scoring ten points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Hungiville is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Payton Neff, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Elsie Bresslin and Trinity Earle certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Bresslin scored ten points along with two steals, while Earle scored four points along with 13 rebounds and two steals.
Smethport's win bumped their record up to 3-11. As for Cameron County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season.
Smethport will challenge Northern Potter at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Cameron County, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Johnsonburg at 6:00 p.m. Johnsonburg is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
