After a string of six wins, the Calaveras Red Hawks's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 47-21 walloping at the hands of Del Oro. Having soared to a lofty 61 points in the game before, Calaveras couldn't push the score so high this time.
Despite the loss, Calaveras still got an impressive performance from Hannah Emerson, who scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy Tapia, who scored two points along with 14 rebounds.
Del Oro's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ysabella Von seipler led the charge by scoring six points along with 15 rebounds and seven steals. Those 15 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Alyena Estrada was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Calaveras' loss dropped their record down to 10-3. As for Del Oro, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-5.
Calaveras will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Summerville at 7:15 p.m. Summerville will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 769th, while Calaveras is ranked 381st). Del Oro and Heritage will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Heritage is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
