Cedar Vale/Dexter got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Cooper Criss out in front who rushed for 155 yards and four scores while picking up 9.1 yards per carry, and also threw for 120 yards on six of 18 attempts. Those four rushing touchdowns gave Criss a new career-high. Royce Potter was another key back, gaining 222 total yards and four touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Cedar Vale/Dexter was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 440 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Flinthills, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They really took it to Yates Center for the full four quarters, racking up a 71-42 win. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won four in a row.
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Beau Hall and Marcus Cummings. Hall had a great game on Friday and rushed for 279 yards and six TDs while picking up 14.7 yards per carry. Meanwhile, Cummings was balling out in the loss, rushing for 124 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.3 yards per carry, and also picking up 51 receiving yards.
Flinthills' defensive line made their presence known, laying out the QB four times. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. They received some extra help from Deken Girty, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Cedar Vale/Dexter's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Flinthills, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
Thursday's contest might be decided on the ground. Cedar Vale/Dexter has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 196.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Flinthills struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 211.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Cedar Vale/Dexter strolled past Flinthills in their previous matchup back in September by a score of 50-36. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Hall, who rushed for 142 yards and three scores while picking up 7.5 yards per carry, and also picked up 53 receiving yards.
