The McQueen Lancers will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Spanish Springs Cougars at 5:15 p.m. Hopefully McQueen focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 33 on Friday.
Last Friday, McQueen lost to the Mustangs on the road by a decisive 51-32 margin. McQueen has not had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the defeat, McQueen got a solid performance out of Caitlin Hilson, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Spanish Springs faced the Tigers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Spanish Springs walked away with a 41-31 win over the Tigers on Friday.
Layni Noonkester was her usual excellent self, scoring ten points along with eight rebounds and three steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Reagan Graham was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
McQueen has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season. As for Spanish Springs, they pushed their record up to 14-10 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: McQueen have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 33 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Spanish Springs struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
McQueen suffered a grim 63-37 defeat to the Cougars in their previous matchup back in January. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point McQueen was down 39-14.
