The Niwot Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 69-39 loss at the hands of Severance. Niwot has not had much luck with the Silver Knights recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Niwot's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taylor Rodanski, who scored nine points along with two blocks. Another player making a difference was Jackson Carano, who scored seven points.
Severance found their leader in underclassman Blake Varney, who scored 15 points along with five assists and two steals. Ryan Ewoniuk was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Niwot's defeat dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Severance, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 13-4.
Niwot will be playing at home against the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Skyline knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully the Cougars like a good challenge. As for Severance, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st. Fort Morgan is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
