The San Gabriel Matadors's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 11th straight loss. They were dealt a 57-27 defeat at the hands of Bell Gardens. While losing is never fun, San Gabriel can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1142nd, while Bell Gardens is ranked 520th).
Bell Gardens got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Karen Ramirez out in front who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. Ramirez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Pamela Brise?o was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
San Gabriel has been struggling recently, as they've lost 14 of their last 15 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-19 record this season. As for Bell Gardens, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-9.
San Gabriel's road trip will continue as they head out to face Montebello at 6:30 p.m. on January 30th. Montebello is on a three-game streak of home losses, San Gabriel a five-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. Bell Gardens will take on Mark Keppel at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mark Keppel knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Bell Gardens likes a good challenge.
