Baseball Recap: Foothill Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

While Foothill put up some runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Layton. Foothill was the clear victor by an 8-0 margin over Layton. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by seven runs or more this season.

Gavin Lauridsen was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sean Green, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. AJ Nagler was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

The victory was the third in a row for Foothill, bringing their record up to 11-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Layton, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Coming up, Foothill will be playing at home against Barlow at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Barlow has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed nine runs per game on average), something Foothill will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Layton, they will be taking part in a tournament against Northview at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday.
