The Westview Wolverines will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Classical Academy Caimans at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Westview barely beat Mira Mesa the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wolverines never let the Marauders get on the board and left with an 8-0 win on Wednesday.
Joseph Arango-Manley made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2025. He was also big at the plate, earning two RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other pitching news, Logan Johnson looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched.
Back at the plate, Elijah Whelan and Devin Martinez did most of the damage at the plate: Whelan went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Martinez went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits Whelan has posted since back in April of 2025. Zeke Gutierrez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Classical Academy gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by a 12-3 margin over Canyon Crest Academy.
Nick Holbrook looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Travis Perry, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Longo, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Classical Academy now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Westview, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Westview got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in June of 2021 against Classical Academy by a conclusive 10-1 score. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Caimans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
