Softball Recap: Gilmer Starts Season with Win Against Lumpkin County

Gilmer gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. They never let the Lumpkin County Indians get on the board and left with a 2-0 win. The Bobcats were shut out 8-0 the last time they took on the Indians, so the Bobcats were just returning the favor.

Not much got past Braley Stewart, who gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Lumpkin County off the board.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lily Fortune, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in August of 2024.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gilmer will welcome Union County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lumpkin County, they will face off against South Forsyth at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
