The Lejeune Devil Pups's game on Friday was all tied up 32-32 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 72-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pamlico County. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Friday (61), Lejeune still had to take the loss.
Lejeune's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Devon Charles, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. Charles has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Trevor Highsmith, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Lejeune were working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pamlico County only racked up 13 assists.
Pamlico County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Antoine King, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Tariq Barber, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Lejeune has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season. As for Pamlico County, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lejeune will square off against Northside - Pinetown at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Pamlico County, they will head out on the road to challenge East Carteret at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. East Carteret is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
