After flying high against the NOVA Academy Eagles last Thursday, the Costa Mesa Mustangs came back down to earth. Costa Mesa was the victim of a tough 49-26 defeat at the hands of Wilson on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Costa Mesa has suffered since December 29, 2023.
Despite the loss, Costa Mesa saw an underclassman step up: Mya Martinez scored nine points along with two steals. That's the first time this season that Martinez grabbed two or more steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jade Martinez, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Costa Mesa has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost 14 of their last 17 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season. As for Wilson, their victory bumped their record up to 10-13.
Costa Mesa will head out on the road to take on Santa Ana at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Santa Ana is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Wilson, they will be playing at home against Los Altos at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Los Altos presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Wilson in California (Los Altos is ranked 314th, while Wilson is ranked 644th).
