Paris had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 11-7 to make it four. They came up short against the Newton Eagles, falling 11-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Tigers have suffered since April 16, 2025.
Drew Kirby was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
As for Newton, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 17-2. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won eight games by seven runs or more so far this season.
On Newton's side, Drake Wolf was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. What's more, Wolf posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Eli Wolf looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Quincy Fulton was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2.1 runs per game. The team also got some help courtesy of David Ferguson, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and three RBI.
Looking ahead, Paris will head out to face off against Arthur-Okaw Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Newton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Teutopolis at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wooden Shoes' pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
