After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Rio Hondo Prep, the Mayfield Cubs were happy to have found some success on Thursday. They came out on top against Chadwick by a score of 34-27. That's another feather in the cap for Mayfield, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Mayfield's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kristen Awakuni led the charge by scoring 15 points along with eight steals and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Christine Ellis, who scored four points along with 14 rebounds and five steals.
Mayfield has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. As for Chadwick, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11.

Providence is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games. As for Chadwick, they will head out on the road to square off against Flintridge Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Flintridge Prep presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Chadwick in California (Flintridge Prep is ranked 41st, while Chadwick is ranked 944th).
