Alana Nieto spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Rolling Meadows made sure to put some runs up on the board against Addison Trail on Wednesday. The Mustangs came out on top against the Blazers by a score of 13-8. Considering the Mustangs' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Caylee Del Boccio was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two doubles. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had over her last 11 games. The team also got some help courtesy of Mary Linker, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Rolling Meadows kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are 8-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Rolling Meadows' victory bumped their record up to 11-15. As for Schaumburg, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-4.
Rolling Meadows' hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Schaumburg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Rolling Meadows, though, as they've been averaging only 3.7 strikeouts. Will Schaumburg keep running through batters, or will the Mustangs buck the trend?
Schaumburg suffered a grim 14-7 defeat to Rolling Meadows in their previous meeting back in April. Will the Saxons have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
