Westerly extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping them down to 4-8. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lincoln Lions. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lions apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Luke Gwaltney led a balanced group of hitters, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Westerly: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 1-7 otherwise. Dante Pruitt was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
As for Lincoln, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.
On Lincoln's side, Carson Mellen made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Mellen posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2025. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, Caden Oldham was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Jacob Harris also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Westerly will face off against rival Smithfield at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Lincoln is set to square off against their familiar foe Cranston West at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
