Esparto extended their losing streak to nine on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-9 in the process. They lost 12-1 to the Delta Saints. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Saints this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-2 last Monday.
Esparto saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Armando Campos, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
As for Delta, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games.
On Delta's side, Spencer Buckley and Chase Parkinson made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Buckley tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Parkinson struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Delta is undefeated when Parkinson allows one or fewer hits, but 3-5 otherwise. At bat, Buckley went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base, while Parkinson got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Those four RBI gave Parkinson a new career-high.
In other batting news, Delta got a massive performance out of Max Danila, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with six stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those six stolen bases gave Danila a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ayden Barrett, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Esparto will face off against Elite at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The last three games the Eagles have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Delta, they will head out to face off against Leroy Greene Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Lions will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Saints surely won't give up without a fight.
