Softball Recap: Greeley West Has No Trouble Against Loveland

After losing to Loveland the last time they met, Greeley West decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Spartans put the hurt on the Red Wolves with a sharp 12-2 victory on Thursday. Considering the Spartans have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Amaya Cron was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, earning one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Greeley West let Hayden Atchley and Aubrey Perez run wild. Atchley went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs, while Perez went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those six RBI gave Atchley a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Iyanna Martinez, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.

Greeley West was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are 11-3 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Greeley West has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 7.7 runs. As for Loveland, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Greeley West will head out to take on Greeley Central at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Loveland, they will venture away from home to challenge Mountain Range at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Red Wolves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
