St. Augustine and Patrick Henry are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Saints will challenge the Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. St. Augustine's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Patrick Henry's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
St. Augustine is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Scripps Ranch just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Saints have suffered since May 17, 2024.
Jonny Haskett was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Raphael Dunne was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Patrick Henry never let their opponents score on Thursday. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over Point Loma. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Patriots.
Tyson Bobo and Alex Mestman did most of the damage at the plate: Bobo went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Mestman went 3-for-4 with two runs. That's the most runs Mestman has posted since back in March.
Patrick Henry's win bumped their record up to 11-6-1. As for St. Augustine, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 12-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. St. Augustine has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Patrick Henry struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went St. Augustine's way against Patrick Henry in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as St. Augustine made off with a 6-0 victory. Will the Saints repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
