Baseball Recap: Albany Wins Going Away Against Saint Mary's

Albany barely beat Saint Mary the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 12-6 margin over the Panthers on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Reuben Turbow looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

At the plate, Mikey Richards was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Preston McGowen, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Albany always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .578. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Albany's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-4. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for Saint Mary's, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11.

Coming up, Albany will head out to face off against Archie Williams at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Saint Mary's, they will be playing at home against Castro Valley at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Trojans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
