John Milledge Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Breaze Jones, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Jones has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.
Meanwhile, Brentwood came tearing into Thursday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Crusaders 12-4. Considering the War Eagles have won 15 games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Skylee Duggan made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Duggan was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Brylee Welch was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in September. Another player making a difference was Cadence English, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Brentwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .536. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .316 or higher in four consecutive contests.
John Milledge Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Brentwood, their record now sits at 17-1.
John Milledge Academy's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's matchup. The Trojans have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Brentwood, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will John Milledge Academy continue to outrun the ball?
John Milledge Academy suffered a grim 15-9 defeat to Brentwood in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
