The Sullivan Redskins will head out on the road to challenge the Marshall Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Sullivan has given up an average of 8.6 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Sullivan is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Clinton on Tuesday. They came up short against the Maroons, falling 15-1. The Redskins have struggled against the Maroons recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Sullivan saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Fallon Rose, who went 1-for-2 with one run. Landon Elder also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Marshall). They blew past Heritage 29-3 on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Lions with their most commanding win of the season.
Garrett Pugh made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Marshall is undefeated when Pugh allows one or fewer hits, but 1-4 otherwise. Pugh was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as he's now launched at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, Reed Ramey was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. He continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandson Maskell, who went 3-for-4 with four runs and one RBI.
Marshall always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2025.
Marshall has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Sullivan, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
Sullivan couldn't quite finish off Marshall in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can the Redskins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
