Monte Vista extended their winning streak to five on Friday, bumping them up to 13-6. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Dublin Gaels. That's two games straight that the Mustangs have won by exactly two runs.
Gabe Coca made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Coca was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run.
In other pitching news, Monte Vista got a great performance from Cameron Cocagne as he tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Cocagne has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Aaron LaRosa, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Mathew Sardelich was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
As for Dublin, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-6. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by exactly two runs.
On Dublin's side, they got a good showing from Ethan Hallett, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits Hallett has allowed since back in March.
At the plate, Wyatt Metz made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Dallas Voyce also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Coincidentally, Monte Vista and Dublin will both be playing Foothill the next time they take the field. The Mustangs will head out to face the Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, while the Gaels will host them at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
