The Valencia Vikings were the 48-43 winner over the Saugus Centurions when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Valencia fell 58-45 to Saugus on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Valencia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 454th, while Saugus is ranked 205th).
Cara McKell and Libby Oxciano certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. McKell dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds, while Oxciano scored 12 points along with eight assists and five rebounds. McKell is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last nine games she's played. Jayla Wilcox was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Valencia's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 8-14. As for Saugus, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-8.
