The Union City Indians struggled with assists on Wednesday (the Monroe Central Golden Bears had 1200% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Union City was beaten by Monroe Central 64-33. Union City lost against Monroe Central in their previous head to head back in November of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 49-15 score last time.
Several Indians players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Luane Schoonbroodt, who scored 17 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Schoonbroodt scored a full 51.5% of Union City's points, the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Audrey Black was another key contributor, scoring 7 points.
Leading Monroe Central to victory were Kimber Abshear and Sydney Patterson. Abshear dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Patterson scored 20 points. The contest was Abshear's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Makennah Chamness, who scored 9 points.
Union City's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Monroe Central, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.
Union City will head out on the road to face off against Ansonia at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Monroe Central, they will be playing at home against Winchester Community at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Winchester Community will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 291st, while Monroe Central is ranked 125th).
