The DuBois Beavers had to endure a seven-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Brockway by a score of 43-32 on Friday. DuBois' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Brockway's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kalina Powell, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Powell is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Maria Buttery, who scored five points along with five rebounds.
DuBois' victory bumped their record up to 1-6. As for Brockway, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. DuBois will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Warren at 2:30 p.m. on January 13, 2024. After both having extra time off, Brockway and Elk County Catholic will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Elk County Catholic will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
