The Redwood Rangers had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They secured a 55-51 W over Sanger. Given Redwood's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 135th, while Sanger is ranked 366th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Redwood's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aryel Chavez, who scored 11 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Tayo, who scored 12 points along with 7 steals.
Redwood's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Sanger, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Redwood will square off against Mission Oak at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Mission Oak's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Sanger, they will head out on the road to face off against Selma at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Selma has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 1-2 during that stretch of close contests.
