The Centaurus Warriors will face off against the Mullen Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Centaurus is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Centaurus is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Brighton just ended the team's 11-game winning streak on Saturday. They came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 15-3. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Warriors, who until this game were averaging 2.5 runs allowed.
Centaurus saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Morgan Sizemore, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mullen). They were the clear victors by a 28-16 margin over Englewood on Monday. The Mustangs not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since September 6th (when they won 17-1).
Roslyn Fresquez was incredible, firing off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 3-for-4. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alena Martinez, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.
Mullen hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive contests.
Mullen pushed their record up to 11-10 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.0 runs over those games. As for Centaurus, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-2.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Centaurus has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .505. However, it's not like Mullen struggles in that department as they've averaged .464. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Centaurus came up short against Mullen in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 10-7. Will the Warriors have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
