Ponderosa hasn't had much luck against Legend recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Mustangs are taking a road trip to take on the Titans at 3:00 p.m.
Ponderosa made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Chaparral, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Mustangs fell just short of the Wolverines by a score of 8-6 on Friday.
Joey Qualteri spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on 11 hits.
On the hitting side, Abby Dietz made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That run marked the first that she has scored this season. Another player making a difference was Campbell Trombley, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Legend entered their tilt with Mountain Vista on Friday with ten consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 11. They blew past the Golden Eagles 15-3. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won ten games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Maddie Kessel was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Legend got a massive performance out of Reese Bryant, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Bryant a new career-high. Lucy Thompson was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles.
Legend was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .522. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .382 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Legend's record now sits at 15-4. As for Ponderosa, their loss dropped their record down to 7-12.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Ponderosa has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. However, it's not like Legend struggles in that department as they've averaged .501. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ponderosa suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Legend when the teams last played back in September of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
