The Serra Cavaliers and the Imperial Tigers will face off at 4:30 p.m. on December 27th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Serra is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Serra has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 22 points or more this season. Everything went their way against Bravo on Saturday as Serra made off with a 51-29 victory.
Serra found their leader in underclassman Kali Carter, who scored 17 points. That's the first time this season that Carter scored 15 or more points. Rachelle Thompson was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Meanwhile, Imperial came up short against Beaumont on Tuesday and fell 47-34. Imperial has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Nayeli Cardona put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 17 points along with five steals. She scored a full 50% of Imperial's points, the 11th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Clare Davila, who scored four points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Imperial struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Serra has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-6 record this season. As for Imperial, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.
Keep an eye on the arc in Wednesday's game: Serra have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4 threes per game. It's a different story for Imperial, though, as they've been averaging only 5.6 threes per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
