The Otay Ranch Mustangs will be taking part in a tournament against the Clairemont Chieftains at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Otay Ranch comes in on five and Clairemont on nine.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither Otay Ranch nor Lincoln made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Mustangs' pitchers stepped up to hand the Hornets a 3-0 shutout.
Moyses Salido got the start for Otay Ranch and what a start it was: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Salido has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. Fernando Tovalin picked up the save, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, Otay Ranch saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carlos Martinez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, Clairemont was able to grind out a solid victory over Steele Canyon on Friday, taking the game 6-3. That's two games straight that the Chieftains have won by exactly three runs.
Jake Robbins made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Colton Daudet was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Bo Osland was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Otay Ranch's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Clairemont, their victory bumped their record up to 9-0.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Otay Ranch has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Clairemont struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Otay Ranch couldn't quite get it done against Clairemont in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 as they fell 12-9. Will the Mustangs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
