The Royal Highlanders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 16th straight defeat. They were beaten by Camarillo 77-18. While losing is never fun, Royal can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1008th, while the Scorpions are ranked 145th).
Camarillo's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Christa Contreras, who scored 20 points along with eight assists and seven rebounds. Contreras is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 15 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Emerson Martin, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Royal's loss was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-22. As for Camarillo, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Royal will take on the Pioneers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Camarillo, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Oak Park is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
