Baseball Recap: Rancho Cotate Drops Highest Score of Season Against Sonoma Valley

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Justin-Siena, Rancho Cotate was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They skirted past the Sonoma Valley Dragons 7-5. The Cougars' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Jett Derammelaere made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). Rancho Cotate is 2-1 when Derammelaere allowsthree or fewer earned runs, but 1-2 otherwise. Derammelaere was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other pitching news, Anthony Barbato looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Rancho Cotate is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-2 otherwise.

Back at the plate, Jeremiah Olvera was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Gauge Cummings, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2.

Rancho Cotate hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sonoma Valley struck out ten times.

The win got Rancho Cotate back to even at 3-3. As for Sonoma Valley, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rancho Cotate will head out to take on Eureka at 4:30 p.m. on March 15th. As for Sonoma Valley, they are taking a road trip to challenge Maria Carrillo at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games Sonoma Valley has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
