The Weddington Warriors will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Independence Patriots at 6:30 p.m. Weddington will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 112th, while Independence is ranked seventh).
After a string of three wins, Weddington's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 54-41 to Butler.
Weddington's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Caroline Clark, who scored 20 points along with 8 rebounds, and Madison Motto who scored 9 points along with 13 rebounds. Clark scored a full 48.8% of Weddington's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, even though Porter Ridge scored an imposing 67 points on Monday, Independence still came out on top. Independence enjoyed a cozy 83-67 victory over Porter Ridge. Independence's win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Independence relied on the efforts of Jessica Worthey, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 10 rebounds, and Kamryn Kitchen, who scored 27 points along with 9 rebounds and 5 assists. That makes it two consecutive games in which Kitchen has scored at least 25% of Independence's points. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Carson, who scored 11 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
Weddington's victory bumped their season record to 4-2 while Butler's defeat dropped theirs to 3-1.
Weddington might still be hurting after the 62-38 loss they got from Independence in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Will Weddington have more luck at home instead of on the road?
