It'll be Battle of the Birds when the SkyView Academy Hawks face off against the Heritage Christian Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday... Both are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Last Wednesday, SkyView Academy was fully in charge, breezing past Front Range Christian 66-36. Given the Hawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while the Falcons are ranked 180th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
01/08/25 @ Front Range Christian | 4 |
12/21/24 vs Highland | 1 |
12/20/24 @ Denver Christian | 4 |
12/19/24 vs Peyton | 3 |
12/10/24 vs Platte Valley | 1 |
It was another big night for Isaac Dove, who went 11 of 14 on his way to 23 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Markus Lloyd, who posted eight points and five assists.
Dove wasn't the only one working in the assists department: SkyView Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 24 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Heritage Christian). They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Dayspring Christian Academy 72-23. The victory was familiar territory for Heritage Christian who have now won four contests in a row.
Heritage Christian's win came from a few key players SkyView Academy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Alec Lundy, who shot 5-for-8 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 boards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Levi Hermsen, who went 6 of 15 on his way to 14 points in addition to six assists and six steals.
SkyView Academy pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.7 points per game. As for Heritage Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as SkyView Academy and Heritage Christian are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. SkyView Academy hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 55.6 points per game. However, it's not like Heritage Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 59.6 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
SkyView Academy lost to Heritage Christian at home by a decisive 62-44 margin in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Can SkyView Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
