The Montgomery Aztecs scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They blew past Santa Fe Christian 88-28 on the road. That looming 88-28 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Montgomery yet this season.
Leading Montgomery to victory were Paula Zumstein and Jordan Whitehead. Zumstein dropped a double-double on 29 points and 14 rebounds, while Whitehead scored 30 points along with nine rebounds and five assists. The matchup was Whitehead's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Genevieve Whitehead, who scored 13 points along with six assists and four steals.
Despite the loss, Santa Fe Christian still got an impressive performance from Piper Lenihan, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds. Lenihan has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played.
Santa Fe Christian struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Montgomery racked up 23 assists.
Montgomery now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Santa Fe Christian, they bumped their record down to 6-8 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.
Montgomery will take on Otay Ranch at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Otay Ranch is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Santa Fe Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against Rock Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Rock Academy is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.
