Pinewood Christian is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 15 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Westfield School on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Hornets by a score of 3-2.
Meanwhile, Citizens Christian Academy got the win against Brookwood on Tuesday by a conclusive 9-2. Considering the Patriots have won ten games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Gray McLean made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in ten consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other pitching news, Clay Phillips looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Thomas Gentry, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Williams, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
The victory made it two in a row for Citizens Christian Academy and bumps their season record up to 15-7-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Pinewood Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-6 record this season.
Everything went Pinewood Christian's way against Citizens Christian Academy when the teams last played two weeks ago, as Pinewood Christian made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pinewood Christian since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
