The King City Mustangs fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They pulled ahead with a 54-53 photo finish over Notre Dame. For King City, this counts as revenge for the 61-16 loss Notre Dame walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2019.
Malaya Carrillo was the offensive standout of the contest as she scored 16 points. Amity Hearne was another key contributor, scoring three points along with 16 rebounds and three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Notre Dame lost on Friday, one person who can't be blamed is Aveena Ducusin. Despite the final result, she scored 19 points along with nine steals and two blocks. That was a full 35.8% of Notre Dame's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Elsa Schlegel, who scored 13 points.
King City's win bumped their record up to 6-11. As for Notre Dame, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-8.
King City will head out on the road to take on Pajaro Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pajaro Valley is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home. Notre Dame will take on Pacific Collegiate at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pacific Collegiate's defense has only allowed 26.7 points per game this season, so Notre Dame's offense will have their work cut out for them.
