Lexington is 2-8 against Lafayette County since October of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Minutemen will host the Huskers at 5:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
On Wednesday, Lexington got the win against St. Pius X by a conclusive 13-4. Considering the Minutemen have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Audrie Bollmeyer made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Bollmeyer was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lexington got a massive performance out of Laniya Davis, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Hunter Adkins was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Lexington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .326 or higher in five consecutive contests.
Lafayette County came out on top against Knob Noster on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 12-run third inning. The Huskers put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 18-3 victory. The Huskers haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Chloe Weddle and Kyamila Huseynov did most of the damage at the plate: Weddle went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Huseynov went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Huseynov a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Paige Miller, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with three runs.
Lexington's victory bumped their record up to 11-9. As for Lafayette County, their win bumped their record up to 10-11.
Lafayette County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lexington hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .433. It's a different story for Lafayette County, though, as they've only averaged .228. Will they be able to contain Lexington's hitters?
