Two dominant backs in Ricardo Rodrguez and Mykha Green are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Calallen Wildcats will be playing at home against the Sinton Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Calallen sitting on four straight victories and Sinton on five.
On Friday, Calallen was able to grind out a solid win over Rockport-Fulton, taking the game 43-36.
Calallen's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Drayson Gamez, who picked up 109 receiving yards and one score, and also rushed for 61 yards. Gamez's longest reception was for an incredible 71 yards. Reese Rusher was another key receiver, picking up 101 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.
Special teams also played a big role in the game for Calallen, adding 13 points to the final score. All came from Ian Perez: he went 3-for-3 kicking field goals for nine points, and 4-for-4 kicking extra points for an additional four.
Meanwhile, Sinton didn't have too much trouble with Miller on Friday as they won 35-20. Given the Pirates' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 200th, while the Buccaneers are ranked 402nd) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Calallen better keep an eye on Sean Hughes. He was instrumental in Sinton's win, picking up 82 receiving yards and one touchdown. Hughes also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making four total tackles and defending two passes.
Calallen's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Sinton, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Calallen has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 238.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Sinton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 284 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Calallen ended up a good deal behind Sinton when the teams last played back in October of 2024, losing 27-13. Will the Wildcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
