Basketball Recap: Arvin Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Arvin lost against Righetti back in December of 2015 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Arvin Bears lost 55-34 to the Righetti Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 526th, while the Warriors are ranked 220th).

Arvin's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Melina Gracia, who posted six points and 16 rebounds, and Jackeline Hidalgo, who put up two points in addition to eight assists and six steals. Those eight assists gave Hidalgo a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kimberly Ochoa, who had seven points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Arvin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Arvin's defeat ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-5. As for Righetti, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.

Arvin wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 44-31 loss against Morro Bay on the 7th. As for Righetti, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 36-30 victory against Shafter on the 7th.
