Adrian Barnes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Saranac is 6-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-7 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Saranac let Robbie Squier and Ian Lawrenz run wild. Squier went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Lawrenz went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits Squier has posted since back in April. Brody Macomber was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Northeastern Clinton hadn't done well against Beekmantown recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Cougars had just enough and edged out the Eagles 6-5. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Jacob Perkins made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Hayden Schad was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Lincoln Perkins, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Northeastern Clinton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.
Saranac's record is now 11-9. As for Northeastern Clinton, their record now sits at 13-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Saranac has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Northeastern Clinton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Saranac was able to grind out a solid victory over Northeastern Clinton in their previous matchup back in April, winning 5-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chiefs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
