The Serra Cavaliers struggled with assists on Saturday (the West Jordan Jaguars had 18 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Serra was outmatched by West Jordan on the road and fell 73-44. While losing is never fun, Serra can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 481st in California, while West Jordan is ranked 62nd in Utah).
Serra lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jadah Foster, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Kali Carter, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and four blocks.
West Jordan was led to victory by Rochelle Afo Manuma and Giselle Muffet. Afo Manuma scored 13 points along with six assists and four steals, while Muffet dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. The contest was Afo Manuma's ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabella Knight, who scored 12 points.
Serra now has a losing record at 7-8. As for West Jordan, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Serra and Saint Joseph will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 2, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Saint Joseph focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 last Thursday. West Jordan will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Cyprus at 5:15 p.m. on January 12, 2024.
