The El Camino Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 34-24 to La Jolla. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points El Camino has scored all season.
Despite the loss, El Camino saw an underclassman step up: Alana Hoskins scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Hoskins scored a full 75% of El Camino's points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Justine Stewart was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, El Camino struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Leading La Jolla to victory were Reagan Bennett and Drew Bennett. Bennett scored ten points along with six rebounds, while Bennett scored 15 points. That's the first time this season that Bennett scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucy Stadmiller, who scored two points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
El Camino bumped their record down to 1-5 with that defeat, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.5 points per game. As for La Jolla, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
El Camino will be playing in front of their home fans against Valley Center at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Valley Center focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 last Friday. La Jolla and Classical Academy will face off at 6:30 p.m. on December 8th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
