Scholars Guild Academy extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 1-12. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the New Creation Christian Academy Crusaders. The Spartans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Crusaders earlier this season, when they won 3-2.
Jackson Martin was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits.
On the hitting side, Scholars Guild Academy saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joshua Strange, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Cortland Smith was another, earning two runs and two stolen bases.
As for New Creation Christian Academy, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 10-7. The victory made it back-to-back wins for they.
On New Creation Christian Academy's side, Micah Stewart made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. Those 16 strikeouts gave Stewart a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hunter Googe, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Scholars Guild Academy will take on Creekside Christian Academy at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for New Creation Christian Academy, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on CrossPointe Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on April 13.
